Clopapier rolls, old chip boxes or milk cartons – Garbage is produced more than enough by everyday life. But in the end it doesn't always have to go into the garbage can: many objects have a very large recycling potential and can become a nice accessory or get another benefit through a little work.

Packaging residues, such as the role of toilet paper or an empty milk pack, can form the cornerstone for a do-it-yourself upcycling project after simple cleaning. Here you will find suitable handicraft ideas:
Flowers made of toilet paper rolls
Flowers are a popular gift on smaller occasions such as Mother's Day or if you just want to say in between: "I love you". They then beautify the room in a vase, but unfortunately only for a short time. Because after a week or two they go in. It is different with self-made flowers that last forever.
For a flower you need:
- two rolls of toilet paper
- Water color box
- a kebab skewer
- Craft glue or hot glue
Paint the two toilet paper rolls with water colors on the inside and outside. One in green and one in the color of choice, for example blue.
Press the blue painted roll flat and cut into six equal (about 1.5 cm) horizontal stripes. These form the petals. Two parts of 1.5 cm – each reach the green roll and form the leaves on the stem.
Now stick the six blue flower strips together at one end to form a flower. Then stick the green stripes slightly offset against the kebab skewer.
As a final step, stick the wooden stick to the flower. Optionally, you can decorate the middle of the flower, for example with a cotton ball.

Gift boxes made of paper rolls
- Toilet paper roll (s)
- for decorating: feathers, decorative stones, paints, stickers, bows etc.
Jewelry or small accessories packing can quickly become a test of patience. Gift boxes prove to be practical. They stay in shape and can look as pretty as the content thanks to colorful paper and a pretty bow.
If there is no packaging at hand, a gift box can be made from old paper rolls, for example toilet or kitchen paper.
To do this, press the empty roll flat. Press the ends sideways inwards so that a closed container is created. And then imagination is required! The box can be decorated as you wish – colorful paper, stickers, bows and much more are suitable here!
An old paper roll quickly becomes a real eye-catcher that can be easily filled and given away!
Make pen holders from empty milk or juice boxes and colorful comics
- Packaging, such as B. milk cartons or chip boxes
- glue
- Decoration of your choice
- Book pages
Whether milk, juice or chips – all these foods are packaged and rarely in glass. Milk and juice bags or chips can quickly end up in the trash, although they can be quickly converted with a little work.
For example, pin holders can be made from them, which makes the workplace at home much prettier.
Simply cut the empty milk or juice pack to the desired size with a sharp knife or scissors. Then mix some paste in a clean container according to the package instructions. Separate pages from any comic or book and snap them into snippets. Then stick the snippets on the empty packaging with paste and add more layers depending on your taste.
Let the packaging dry overnight – done!
